Basseterre, St. Kitts – The Rotary Club of Liamuiga is set to host the 2015 edition of its Annual Primary School Spelling Bee. The Competition is slated for Thursday October 22, 2015, commencing at 4 p.m. at the ECCB Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium, Bird Rock.

The Annual Primary School Spelling Bee is one of the many projects hosted by the Rotary Club of Liamuiga to aid the development of the youth of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis. This year’s finals will feature 20 young spellers representing both public and private primary schools in St Kitts. The reigning champion, Ms Michaiah Cranston of the Dieppe Primary School, will be returning to defend her spelling crown.

“We invite and encourage the general public to join us this Thursday in supporting our nation’s young scholars as they vie to be the last speller standing,” said Mrs Chérisse Gardner-Williams, Director of Youth Service Projects for the Club. “In these trying times for our young people in the Federation and indeed the World, they truly need to feel the love and support of adults when they are engaged in positive activities.”

The new Rotary year began on July 1, 2015 under the theme “Be a Gift to the World” and the Club has already provided training to thirty (30) youth leaders in area of Organisational Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, has helped to spearhead the first relief response for the Commonwealth of Dominica in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika and has hosted its annual National Heroes Day Luncheon at the Saddlers Home for the Elderly. The Club’s upcoming projects will include sponsorship of one young person to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards in Grenada, refitting of the Beach Allen Primary School Computer Lab with new computers and a server, its annual Christmas Hamper Distribution to the less fortunate, an uplift of the Bay Road Boulevard and the hosting of the Club’s major fundraiser, its Annual New Year’s Charity Ball at Carambola Beach Club.
