Basseterre, St. Kitts (September 08, 2024) – In observance of Rotary International’s Basic Education and Literacy Month and International Day of Literacy celebrated on September 08, the Rotary Club of Liamuiga (RCL) continues to play its part in promoting literacy through its annual preschool reading activity at two (2) Early Childhood Centres on St. Kitts. This initiative aligns with the Rotary Club of Liamuiga commitment to supporting education and promoting community development by focusing on early childhood literacy.
Rotarians on Friday 6th September 2024 visited the Kick Start Brilliance Preschool and Ray of Hope Preschool, and hosted a Reading Hour, an animated and interactive storytelling session that delighted the young learners.
The club also took the opportunity to donate a few reading books to the schools, as well as several activity items to assist the staff in enhancing their respective reading and writing skills programmes in accordance with the academic curriculum.
In speaking about the activity, President Kaii Mills-Dias, noted, “We believe that investing in early literacy is crucial for a child’s future success. By providing access to books and encouraging a love of reading, we hope to empower these young minds and equip them with the tools they need to thrive.”
Since its inception in 2003, the Rotary Club of Liamuiga (RCL) has been an advocate for literacy and has donated hundreds of books, and educational materials to Primary and Secondary School Libraries across St. Kitts and Nevis, hosted the National Primary Schools Spelling Bee, and is a civic partner for the annual Charles A Halbert Easter Read A Thon.
